Police and a first responders work at the scene where a double-decker city bus struck a transit shelter in Ottawa, on Friday, Jan. 11, 2019.

According to reports, the incident occurred during rush hour at the busy transit station in the west end of the city.

Along with the three killed, 23 others were injured in the crash, with the Ottawa Hospital tweeting Saturday one patient remains in critical condition, six in serious condition and four remain in stable condition.

Police Chief Charles Bordeleau told reporters that an investigation into the cause of the crash was underway, and that the driver of the bus had been released unconditionally following questioning.

The company's move follows plans announced a year ago to reduce white-collar jobs across the company's global business. Most will be in office roles as the company wants to simplify its management structure.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford said he was devastated to hear of those who were killed and injured in the bus collision. "So we have different pieces of information right now, so we're going to correct that record".

Sgt. Cameron Graham from the collision investigation unit, the team overseeing the investigation, told reporters on Saturday they're exploring a number of aspects, including "human factors", the vehicle itself and weather conditions.

"It's important that the public does not read into the fact that she was arrested", Bordeleau said.

She says their names will not be released at this time. This particular bus was not scheduled to stop at the Westboro station, which is another aspect being probed in the investigation.

'Suspicious packages' found at consulates in Australia
Australian Federal Police are now examining the packages, which were delivered to consulates on St Kilda Rd and in the CBD. A firefighter is seen carrying a hazardous material bag into the South Korean consulate in Melbourne.

"Accidents can happen", Bordeleau said, adding the service carries millions of passengers per-year, while such crashes remain a rarity. Despite mid-afternoon temperatures of about minus-15, it had not snowed in Ottawa Friday and the busway is treated as a top priority for the city's snowplows, salters and sanders.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau expressed his condolences on Twitter.

In 2013, a double-decker commuter bus crashed into a passenger train, killing six people including the driver.
