Manhunt Underway After Suspect Fired Into Vehicle, Killing 7-Year-Old Girl

Authorities in Houston say a man in a pickup truck pulled up next to a vehicle full of girls leaving a Walmart parking lot and opened fire, killing a 7-year-old inside.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said in posts on Twitter and Facebook that the girl who died was 7-year-old Jazmine Barnes.

The 7-year-old girl's mother was also struck in the arm and taken to the hospital. The sheriff's office said glass fragments injured a younger child.

Three other girls were in the auto, but it wasn't immediately clear if they also are related to the woman, who authorities say was shot in the arm. Investigators describe him as a white male in his 40s with a beard and driving a red pickup truck. Officials said they are looking for a red four-door pickup truck, KHOU reported.

Washington was shot in the arm and her daughter, Jazmine Barnes, was killed in the shooting Sunday morning.

Razo said his department will continue to investigate the incident and "use all of our resources to bring this killer to justice".

The sheriff's office is asking locals in the area around Wallisville Road near the E. Sam Houston Parkway, near the Walmart, to check surveillance video to try an identify the suspect.

Gonzalez urged the suspect to turn himself in. We will locate you, we will find you, ' he added. Jesse Razo said the survivors are "shaken and devastated".
