  • Kevin Spacey faces charges from 2016

Lawyers of the actor enter a not guilty plea in a case in which he is accused of groping an 18-year-old busboy in a MA bar in 2016. The two-time Oscar victor smiled and chuckled with his lawyer before the proceeding began, but otherwise didn't speak, reports CBS News' Jericka Duncan, who was seated behind him in the courtroom.

Nantucket District Court Judge Thomas Barrett ordered Spacey to stay away from his accuser and the man's family.

Spacey then allegedly invited him back to his place, along with some other friends.

In court documents, quoted in the Wall Street Journal, Spacey has claimed that "my presence will amplify the negative publicity already generated in connection with this case".

The next hearing is scheduled for March 4 at 11:00 a.m. local time.

Spacey did not speak during a brief hearing in Nantucket District Court to face one count of felony indecent assault and battery, though a plea of not guilty was entered on his behalf.

The statement from the prosecutor said the suspects attended the hearing in the presence of their lawyers. No date has been set for the next hearing.

The alleged victim is the son of former television news presenter Heather Unruh, who spoke publicly about the incident past year.

Unruh said Spacey, who denied the allegations offered her son several drinks, even though he was underage. The alleged victim told investigators he texted his girlfriend about the incident, and he snapchatted video to prove it, according to the incident report.

Spacey's lawyer, Alan Jackson, has sought to poke holes in the case, noting that the teenager didn't immediately report the allegations.

The BBC's Nada Tawfik said from the Nantucket courthouse that the criminal charges against Spacey mark one of the most stunning downfalls of the #MeToo movement.

He is accused of sexually assaulting an 18-year-old male after plying him with alcohol at a bar in Nantucket in 2016.

Spacey was sacked from his hit Netflix drama House of Cards and director Ridley Scott edited him out of his Getty family drama All the Money in the World and replaced the Oscar victor with Christopher Plummer.

Huawei demotes two employees for posting to Twitter from an iPhone
The slip-up comes as tensions run high with finance chief Meng Wanzhou facing extradition to the US over alleged bank fraud. This is the first time that an Android OEM's internal response to a tweet being posted from an iPhone has gone public.

"Spacey stuck his hand inside my son's trousers and grabbed his genitals", Unruh said.

The teen told his sister and mother about the incident and later reported it to police. He chose to come forward and tell police because he did not want what happened to him to happen to someone else, he said in the complaint. Then attorneys in the case moved on to discuss procedural matters.

A lawyer for Spacey - whose legal name is Kevin S Fowler - had earlier asked the judge to allow the hearing to happen without the defendant present, but that request was refused.

The first public allegation of abuse came from actor Anthony Rapp, who claimed that Spacey sexually assaulted him when Rapp was 14, in 1986.

News. "My client is leading by example".

More than two dozen journalists packed the courtroom hours before Spacey was scheduled to appear.
