  • South Korea to send trains to North Korea in joint survey to connect railways separated since Korean War

The official spoke on condition of anonymity, citing office rules.

The US President says his relationship with the North Korean leader is so good he expects their next meeting to take place as soon as January or February and, at some point, Donald Trump even hopes to invite Kim Jong-un to the US. "The two leaders agreed Chairman Kim Jong Un's visit to Seoul would provide additional momentum to their joint efforts to establish peace on the Korean Peninsula", Moon's chief press secretary Yoon Young-chan said.

"The inter-Korean railway connection project is meant to overcome division and open a new future of the Korean Peninsula", Unification Minister Cho Myoung-gyon said at a ceremony at Dorasan Station near the border, according to pool reports.

Trump also said that "at some point" he would invite Kim to visit the USA, though he gave no indication of when.

Over the 18-day inspection of the lines on the west and east coast (called the Gyeongui and Donghae lines, respectively, in South Korea), the train will travel a total of 2,600 kilometers.

Twenty-eight South Korean officials including people from the unification, and land, infrastructure and transport ministries will inspect the 400-kilometer section from Gaeseong to Sinuiju through December 5.

Last November, a North Korean soldier was critically wounded in the jointly controlled area after he fled to the South amid a hail of bullets fired by his former comrades.

The Unification Ministry said the North will attach its own cars to the engine, but it was unclear how many.

Cavaliers reportedly trade guard Korver to Utah Jazz
Simply put, if Quin Snyder's team can't make 3-pointers, the very thing his offense is created to do, it's nearly dead on arrival. Korver was one of the most coveted players on the market, and the Cavs have been shopping him along with forward J.R.

South Korean soldiers guided the North Korean to safety after they found him walking across the eastern sector of the Demilitarized Zone, the buffer zone separating the Koreas, the South Korean military said in a brief statement. The South Korean train was composed of a locomotive and six other cars that went into the North to reach Panmun Station in Kaesong. The South used the trains to move construction materials north, while clothing and shoes made at the factory park were sent south. North Korea had been angered by Washington's refusal to ease sanctions and has warned it could resume development of its nuclear program if the United States did not drop its campaign. But the line was cut in 2008 and the Kaesong park eventually closed in 2016 as relations deteriorated.

The joint railway surveys were on hold before the U.N. Security Council on Saturday granted an exemption to sanctions that allowed them to proceed.

The survey will run in two stages.
