Police Director Moses Byaruhanga said a total of 13 bodies, which were retrieved from the water on Saturday evening will be released soon upon completion of postmortem examinations. She said that 27 people were rescued overnight.

"We rushed to help but the passengers couldn't swim and when we got beside them with our boats they grabbed us", he said.

The rescue boat arrived on time and all the survivors went onboard but they boarded in big numbers and it also capsized and that's when majority drowned and died. "They were shouting 'Help us!"

Victims include the couple who owned the boat, according to Ms Ganyana.

The boat reportedly carried over 120 passengers, beyond its capacity of 100, who traveled from KK beach in capital city Kampala to Mukono, according to local media. No information was provided by police on how many people may still be missing.
