But it remains to be seen whether Democrats' rage will amount to the so-called "blue wave" they have anticipated for almost two years, or whether it's even enough to gain the 23 seats needed to eke out a Democratic majority in the House.

A major surge in early voting also sparked speculation that the so-called "Trump effect" was motivating progressive voters to turn out in record numbers - but as numerous election experts have pointed out, early voting has been a rising trend for years, and it's unclear whether all those early voters support Republicans or Democrats.

Analysts expect pressure on stocks if Democrats gain control of the House and a sharper downward reaction if they take the Senate too.

They face a far more hard challenge in the Senate, where they are nearly exclusively on defense in rural states where Trump remains popular. "The Democrats still essentially have no path to the majority without winning one of these three states: North Dakota, Tennessee, and Texas, and the Republicans retain what appear to be edges in all three".

Lavrov also reiterated Moscow's position that it is not meddling in USA elections.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, who would likely become speaker in a Democratic House, has so far dismissed talk of impeaching President Trump.

Supreme Court Cuts Short Battle Over Net Neutrality Regulation
The Ninth Circuit heard oral arguments in the case pending before it in May but has not yet issued a ruling. The Supreme Court also declined to remove the precedential value of the D.C.

"We will have a responsibility to find our common ground where we can, stand our ground where we can't", Pelosi said.

Gallup also found that Democrats are less optimistic than Republicans when it comes to their chances of having a majority in the House in 2019.

During a six-day blitz to wrap up the campaign, Mr Trump repeatedly raised fears about immigrants, issuing harsh warnings about a caravan of Central American migrants moving through Mexico toward the United States border.

Campaigns unfolded against a backdrop of jarring political imagery, heated rhetoric and angry debates on immigration, health care and the role of Congress in overseeing the president.

Midterm elections are typically hard for the party in power, and GOP incumbents were on defense in races across the country.

Sanders, the independent who has always been one of the state's most popular politicians, spent little time campaigning ahead of Tuesday's election.

All 435 seats in the U.S. House were up for re-election, although fewer than 90 were considered competitive. In addition, some voters are electing governors and state legislators.

"The reasonable range of outcomes in the Senate still seems fairly wide, with a bigger GOP gain possible, or no gain at all or even a Democratic gain", they explained. Andrew Gillum lost to Republican Ron DeSantis in his quest to become Florida's first black governor.

There are 36 gubernatorial seats and hundreds of state legislature seats in play. Republicans argue that the nation's sovereignty is at risk if Democrats prevail.

Around 37 percent of eligible voters took part in the 2014 mid-term elections, down from 42 percent in 2010. About two in 10 each choose the economy and immigration as their top issue, and just one in 10 say it's gun policy.

American voters poured out across their bitterly divided country on Tuesday to deliver judgment on Donald Trump in midterm polls where opposition Democrats seized partial control of Congress.

Still, USA Today reports that White House aides have been bracing for a Democrat takeover following the midterms, which would drastically impact a number of Trump's initiatives, not to mention the inevitable conclusion of special counsel Robert Mueller's Russian Federation investigation.

Election forecasters said Democrats would likely pick up the 23 seats they need to gain a majority in the House, but the party had less hope of adding the two seats it needs to gain control of the Senate. There are 35 seats up for election this year, and 26 are held by Democrats, meaning Democrats have a lot to defend.

Goodstein, however, still believes that Trump "is uniquely disfavored" and numerous voters who strongly disapprove of Trump will take to the polls, allowing the Democrats to regain the House of Representatives.

Voters also punished moderate Senate Democrats running in Trump-heavy states who opposed the confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court.

To stem Republican losses, Trump sprinted through mostly white regions of the country, interjecting dark and foreboding warnings about what Democratic power would mean for the nation.

As of Wednesday, voters were on track to send at least 100 women to the House, surpassing the previous record of 84. Polls show Democrats favored in 202 House seats and Republican favored in 194 seats.
