The number of people killed in rain-induced incidents has also increased to 26.

Eight columns of Army, four Navy teams and three Coast Guard teams are carrying out relief operations in different parts of the state, The Hindu reported. Similarly, Kollam, Palakkad, Thiruvananthapuram and Wayanad districts received more than seven times their normal rain.

Almost 400 flood-affected people, including 85 children from Keerithod in Kanjikuzhy panchayat near Cheruthoni have been in a camp for the past two days as a precautionary measure after water was released from Idukki dam. This will raise the water level in Periyar river and its subsidiaries.

A high alert has been sounded in Idukki, where all the five shutters of the Cheruthoni dam on Idukki reservoir were opened to drain out excess water.

Wayanad district has been completely cut off by landslides and the state government has sought the army's help to restore the road network to the hill district.

Many areas like Ganesh Nagar have been affected, especially low-lying areas in the district and the surrounding areas next to Kalpathy river.
