  • Iran volatile on eve of U.S. sanctions

Supporters of the Iran agreement have long argued that the US departure would alienate European allies who partnered with the U.S.in the negotiations.

Iran's political class places huge emphasis on opposing the United States and its influence in the Middle East.

United States officials say Mr Pompeo's speech is the latest step in a communications offensive launched by the Trump administration that is meant to foster unrest in Iran, and help pressure its government to end its nuclear programme and support of militant groups. Yet the potential for major shocks to the economy from the phasing-out of the greenback and switch to a new currency has stalled such moves to decouple their economies from USA -dollar hegemony.

"Iran, and its economy, is going very bad, and fast!" he added.

China Plans Tariffs on $60 Billion of Imports to Counter Trump
In July, Washington fired the first salvo in the escalating trade war with Beijing by introducing 25 percent tariffs on Chinese imports worth $34 billion.

"Perhaps that will be the path the Iranians choose to go down".

Despite opposition from European allies, Trump in May pulled the United States out of a 2015 deal between world powers and Tehran under which global sanctions were lifted in return for curbs on Iran's nuclear programme.

"I would certainly meet with Iran if they wanted to meet", Trump said. "No preconditions. They want to meet?"

Already facing broad economic fallout as their currency implodes, Iranians are wondering how the next phase of the crisis in US relations will play out - and what, exactly, America's long-term strategy is toward their country. Since the USA withdrawal from the Iran deal, Iran's currency has taken a nosedive, soaring up to around 120,000 rials to a dollar.

Wisconsin's 5-day sales tax holiday begins
Georgia repealed a tax holiday last year, and the Massachusetts Legislature this year defeated a proposed holiday , Anklam said. According to the Texas Comptroller's Officer, the average shopper will save about $8 for every $100 spent.

That's according to two European diplomats involved in negotiations with the Trump administration over how sanctions would be re-imposed.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani stated on Sunday that he would appear at an open session of the parliament to answer questions on his cabinet's economic performance and agenda, as requested by the lawmakers. Iran watchers consider Rouhani a moderate who spent considerable political capital in negotiating with the USA and the West to cast the Iran deal. While the Trump administration has said it wants to cut Iranian oil exports to zero by November 4, most analysts viewed that target as unlikely.

Other figures in Iran's government dismissed the idea as non starter, saying the nuclear deal represented the talks they supported, and having that ripped up made future conversations untenable. I'm ready to meet whenever they want to.

Sporadic protests broke out in several cities in Iran for a fifth night on Saturday, a day after demonstrators attacked a Shi'ite seminary, according to Iranian news agencies and social media, as Iranians brace for a return of US sanctions.

Trump team wants to roll back Obama-era mileage standards
The administration said the proposed rollback would mean billions of dollars in regulatory savings for vehicle manufacturers. The 2020 standard would be around 32 miles per gallon.
