  • Syrian Democratic Forces, a Kurdish-dominated group that is the United States’ main military partner in Syria captured two British Daesh members El Shafee Elsheikh and Alex

Kotey and Elsheikh were captured in early January by the Syrian Democratic Forces during an operation in eastern Syria, according to a US official.

Emwazi is also believed to have killed another British captive, Alan Henning, and the American journalists James Foley and Steven Sotloff, while the USA government has attributed 27 beheadings to the group.

Two British men believed to be members of a notorious Islamic State group (IS) cell have been seized by Syrian Kurdish fighters, USA officials say.

Of the other two members of the "Beatles" group, Mohammed Emwazi - nicknamed "Jihadi John" - was killed in 2015 in a drone strike by the US-led coalition fighting the ISIS group.

A US official told the NY Times that the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) captured the two in early January in eastern Syria and handed them over to USA authorities in the country.

Their capture was first reported by the New York Times, who noted that American officials had wanted to keep the news secret. The U.S. government said he hung on to the information to protect intelligence information.

Elsheikh was sanctioned by the State Department in March previous year.

In October, the group lost its "capital" of Raqqa to the SDF. The US-backed group has played a key role in driving IS from its strongholds in Syria.
