Intel drones stole the show at the Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony

  • Intel's drones are large LED lights with propellers and sensors attached. They weigh less than a pound

There might be an asterisk in the record book, however: The show didn't actually take place at today's opening ceremony for the PyeongChang Olympics in South Korea. According to Wired, which talked to the company about its performance, Intel will produce live drone shows throughout the Olympics and will have nightly shows during medal ceremonies.

"As it turns out, bring 1,218 of those drones into harmony doesn't present much more of a logistical challenge than 300, thanks to how the Shooting Star platform works".

"It's been exciting for us to partner with Intel on the Winter Olympics, as they continue to push the limits with their advanced drone light show technologies", said Sam Prosser, commercial director EMEA APAC Guinness World Records.

Amazon Now Delivers Whole Foods in One Hour
Out of booze? No worries; "select alcohol is also available for delivery to customers", according to Amazon and Whole Foods . This is Amazon's real threat in the space: Its ability to leverage the millions of shoppers who are already Prime members.

"And while more drones does provide a broader canvas, it perhaps more importantly affords a better sense of depth".

According to AdWeek, Intel broke its own world record for the number of drones used with 1,218, and the idea of the performance was to enthrall. They followed up a show with 100 drones in Germany in 2015 with a performance featuring 500 of the bots the next year - obviously this tech is just getting smarter and smarter.

"We are honoured to have Intel drones playing several roles at the Olympic Games", said Anil Nanduri, vice president and general manager, Intel Drone Group. Neither of those conditions are great for drone performance and the city's weather caused Intel to cancel the planned live version of the display.

Canada shed 88000 jobs in January
Others didn't expect the January report, on its own, to have a significant impact on the outcome of the next rate announcement. Ontario, which increased its minimum wage in January, was the biggest loser in January, shedding 50,900 jobs in the month.

As NewsOne reported earlier, on February 9 in Pyeongchang, the Korean started the XXIII Olympic Winter games.

Each of Intel's foam and plastic drones is equipped with LED lights that can create more than 4 billion color combos. Pyeongchang was chosen in 2011 for the event, making this the first time for South Korea to host the Winter Olympics. You might remember a similar spectacle at Lady Gaga's 2017 Super Bowl half-time show, but that only involved about 300 drones.
